David Askew: was 64 years of age.
Instead of helping him, the Police blamed him?

David Askew. David Askew.

Ageism: David was assigned what the police refer to as a neighbourhood police team.
He had been harassed for over a decade.
Which simply proves what this site is constantly stating, (Injustice, and Ageism).

This 64 year old man was even warned by the police to change his own behaviour!
Even given the fact that he'd done nothing wrong.
And I've not only seen this kind of treatment, but been on the end of it.
Police officers rarely seem to have any real understanding of vulnerability in people of age.

That is until they get old themselves, and I can back that up too!

Fatal Result:
This appears to be some kind of police policy to pick on the victim, possibly because its easier to do?
The suspicion is, that maybe it will frighten them enough to stop ever phoning the police again, and that's very counter productive!
This poor man was disabled, and unable to truly defend himself against such odds.
Sadly, David collapsed and died outside of his home, after suffering even more harassment, with no-one to help him.

He had even experienced his neighbours turning on him, because they don't have the backbone to tackle his harassers.
This is quite a common reaction, when people fail to support each other, a soldier calls it treachery, and that's unforgivable!
His was a continual daily bullying, and he was unable to physically deal with it due to his condition.

Hate Crimes:
He was classed as a very vulnerable man, and had been unlawfully killed after a decade of constant bullying.
The report criticises the police for failing to categorise the harassment as a hate crime.
And simply put, they should have classed all his complaints this way due to his disability.

Cowards:
Harassment to people over the age of 60 should be classed as a hate crime, (Ageism).
The biggest so-called PC laws that have completely failed, are that of ageism!
Many years ago, the act of someone picking on a person over the age of 60 was simply frowned upon as being a bully, and a coward.

The report stated that his case should have been dealt with at a much higher level than just neighbourhood police.
It went on to criticise the force as a whole, and in its recommendations were stated clearly.
What can only be considered as adding insult to injury was that no individual officer would ever be disciplined.

Pre Warned:
Mr Askew’s death came on the same day that Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary (HMIC)
had warned police forces that they were failing to deal with anti-social behaviour in communities across the country.
More to the point is the fact that this was back in 2007, so it appears that they never did anything to improve things?
Its now 2023, and reports very similar to Davids, are still being produced. NO LESSONS LEARNT!

Tragedy:
This man probably died through stress!
The kind of stress which is brought about by being ignored by the police and councils.
They quite often fail to help people, and then to save face they even try to turn it around and blame the victims.
Its almost as if they want a tragedy?
They seem to have no understanding of any real life facts.
Because what they fail to realise, is that one day it could be themselves, and given that there is little to no control anymore, it's all very possible!

RIP.

BULLIED TO DEATH!

In Conclusion.

Inheritance:
Very often people will ignore the old and the vulnerable.
Its perfectly natural given the pace of life, but its really not very beneficial.
What that means is, that all the sadness that you see around you, could one day become your own?
So put yourself in other peoples shoes, and imagine how they must feel!

Look, Listen, Think: David was already in a wheelchair, and at a great disadvantage against those harassing him.
It might seem amusing to the young harassers, but they have no idea about real life.
When it happens to them or even to yourself, who will be there to help?
Certainly not the uneducated harassers, so how can it be prevented?

Education: There is a way forward.
Real life situations can actually be enacted within the school walls.
Demonstrating how it must feel to be harassed, and if the truth be known, some pupils already know!
Those being bullied understand the truth, and many past examples have been highlighted on this site, and of those that ended with suicides.

Question Everything:
So ask yourself a question, is it OK to tolerate and ignore people in need?
Because one day, it could be your own child being bullied, or even in a wheelchair.
David deserved to be treated as a human being, not a punch bag!

What you sow, you will surely reap, and this is the consequence of ignoring others in need.
We are all human, and we all go through the same lives, because its simply a one way trip.
So make it a pleasant journey, not only for yourselves, but for others, no matter how they may appear to you?

Remorse:
David was as all old people find themselves, and that is, very lonely, and with many painful memories.
Everyone, no matter whom, will one day understand these words, and even the harassers will feel strong remorse.
Because when you are young, you feel that you can change the world, and you yourself will never be old?
But in truth, you fail to change anything, because the world simply changes you, and as you age, even your feelings change with you.

Its never too late to make better choices, so do it now, and create a world that you yourself would prefer to inherit.
David Askew may be someone that you never knew, but his life was just as important as any others.
So give Davids life some reason, and honour his memory with one kind deed...
Do it today, make someone in need feel wanted again? You know that it makes sense!

ONE LIFE LOST, IS ONE TOO MANY!
