Aiyana Stanley Jones.
Aiyana Jones:
Aiyana was just 7 years old, and she died on the 16th of May, 2010.
She was shot and killed by a police officer, that should never have been employed in this service.
Her death occurred when the police raided her home, whilst filming alongside a reality show crew.
The police at first, threw a flash grenade into the house where little Aiyana was sleeping on a couch.
This action actually burnt her, but then the aggressive officer Joseph Weekley entered.
He aimed and fired a single shot directly at Aiyana, striking her in the head, and allegedly, MURDERING HER.
Grandmother, Mertilla Jones, was lying just below the sofa that Aiyana was lying upon.
When she was later to testify what had happened to Aiyana. She described the following...
The guy was right there just pointing his gun, and Aiyana was hit, and then I seen the light leave, out of her eyes.
Officer Joseph Weekley and his team, had previously been accused of using unnecessary force back In 2007.
This was when they had raided the home of Martin Westbrook to arrest him, but of whom in fact was already in custody.
They shot and killed their two family dogs, and then pointed their guns at infants.
Why, when it's already clear to see that a particular officer uses way too much force, are they not removed from active service?
Aiyana was just a child, dearly loved by her family, and now they have to live with that nightmare of her death!
They will never see their little girl grow up, and that's just heartbreaking..!
Alberta Spruill.
Alberta Spruill:
Alberta was 57 years old, and she died on the 16th of May, 2003.
She had died of a heart attack, due to masive shock, caused by the police.
She was a churchgoer, and a city employee for over 25 years.
Her death was a direct result of the police mistakenly raiding her Harlem, New York, apartment, looking for drugs.
They had tried to open her front door with a Rabbit tool, which forces the door away from its frame.
But it failed, so they used a battering ram instead, then they tossed in a disorienting flash grenade.
They then handcuffed Alberta, and started their search of the apartment.
After a short while they realised simply by the cleanliness and tidiness of her home, that they had it all wrong!
She was then ordered to be uncuffed, and was told she was in no trouble.
Unfortunately, she was known to have a heart condition, and soon began fighting for her breath.
They sent for an ambulance which arrived in 6 minutes, and at 7.16 they rushed her to the hospital.
They arrived at 7.28, but at 7.50, she was pronounced dead.
The stress and fear that this gentle lady had endured that evening, had taken her precious life.
Another completely innocent lady dies at the hands of police bundling?
Aleah Mariah Jenkins.
Aleah Mariah Jenkins:
Aleah was 24 years old, and she died on the 6th of December, 2018.
She had been arrested on November the 27th by the police.
That fatal day she was simply just a passenger in a vehicle that the police had pulled over on La Jolla Village Drive.
During the traffic stop, officers arrested her on a misdemeanor warrant that accused her of methamphetamine possession.
She immediately went into medical distress and became unresponsive whilst held in police custody that evening, and died on December the 6th.
She had told the police that one of the two males in the car had handed her a bag of drugs, and told her to hide them.
Jenkins appeared to be ill and vomited at the traffic stop, prompting officers to call for paramedics.
However, according to the police, Jenkins had told them she just had an upset stomach, and the officers canceled the ambulance call.
Aleah was then taken to downtown headquarters to be processed for booking.
An autopsy revealed that her death had been caused by brain tissues dying due to a lack of oxygen whilst CPR was being performed on her, and acute methamphetamine toxicity.
Its quite possible that she may have panicked when told to hide the drugs.
Its also possible that she was afraid of any consequences, if she didn't do what she had been told.
So she panicked and mistakenly thought by swallowing them, that it would be OK.
The key question would have to be, 'were the two males that forced her to hide the drugs ever arrested'?
Alesia Thomas.
Alesia Thomas:
Alesia was 35 years old, and she died on the 22nd of July, 2012.
She was literally kicked to death by a police officer.
Alesia had a drug problem, not completely uncommon for someone with a bipolar disorder.
Some may criticise her because she appeared to have abandoned her two children at a police station.
Her reason was clear, she couldn't possibly look after them due to her addiction.
She had spent her money on drugs, and couldn't feed them.
Yes, that's wrong, but she needed help, not brutalising..!
Its quite possible that her motherly instincts had kicked in, even though she was using drugs.
Because the fact that she had dropped them off at a police station, indicates that she must have felt they would be safer there?
Mary O’Callaghan, one of 4 LAPD officers tracked her back to her home.
However, Callaghan was distinctly overheard threatening to kick Alesia whilst she was handcuffed.
This was simply because she wouldn't get into the police car, and then suddenly Callaghan started to kick her.
She was kicked 7 times in her groin, abdomen, and upper thigh, and she ultimately died after going into cardiac arrest.
Mary O’Callaghan 51, was a veteran Los Angeles policewoman, and was arrested for Alesia's murder.
She was sentenced on July 23, 2015 to a mere 3 years in jail, for murdering this mother of two young children aged just 12, and 3 years old.
However her sentence, was then later reduced to only 16 months.
This was premeditated murder, because she had clearly announced her intentions to kick an handcuffed female into a police car!
And once again, the cold hard fact remains that people are offered just a little piece of justice, and then its simply just snatched away!
SAY HER NAME!
Alteria Woods.
Alteria Woods:
Alteria was 21 years old, and she died on the 19th of March, 2017.
Tragically Alteria was also four months pregnant at the time of her death.
She died in a hail of bullets surrounded by a SWAT team.
The shootout was in Gifford, Florida, at a suspected drug house.
The police were targeting her boyfriend Andrew Coffee, and his father also named 'Andrew Coffee'.
Coffee had used her as a human shield, after opening fire on the police officers.
The authorities described Coffee as a coward, for using his pregnant girlfriend as a human shield.
Whilst no one would possibly disagree with that description, it also reeks of unprofessionalism whilst using rifle sites, and not making sure of the innocent.
Both men were later arrested, and faced multiple charges.
SWAT are trained experts with guns, so why when they have perfected rifle sights, open fire when clearly there was a hostage involved?
They must have clearly seen her being held against her will, and possibly even the fear on her face.
Therefore, the question remains, did her race have any bearing on their decision to open fire, because this cannot be simply dismissed as mistaken identity.
Mainly because their rifle sites would have picked up a female, and they were there to arrest a male!
Try to imagine the terror that this young lady must have felt, and never forget her innocent unborn child, both simply deprived of their precious lives.
Atatiana Jefferson.
Atatiana Jefferson:
Atatiana was 28 years old, and she died on the 12th of October, 2019.
She was a Texas woman who was shot and killed by a Fort Worth police officer.
This event occurred at about 2am in the morning, whilst she was inside her own home!
A neighbour (James Smith) had called a none emergency number to report an open door.
The truth was, some hamburgers had been burnt whist cooking, so the door was opened to ventilate the home.
She was at the time playing video games with her eight-year-old nephew, just before she went to investigate the noise outside.
Because of hearing this noise, Atatiana took out a gun from her purse and went towards the window.
The police officers completely failed to identify themselves, so there was no way of her knowing that they were in fact the police.
Officer Aaron Dean without any warning shot straight through her bedroom window, and killed her.
This was all caught on body camera footage, and was also mentioned in the medical examiners report.
The officer Aaron Dean 34, was indicted for murder, and has immediately resigned from the force.
He was eventually found guilty of manslaughter and jailed for just 11 years, which is hardly a fair sentence, but at least something.
However, since this event, one sister (Amber Carr), was diagnosed with congestive heart failure and given a terminal prognosis.
Just three months later her mother Yolanda Carr passed away in the same Fort Worth home where her 28-year-old daughter was killed.
An eleven year sentence can never bring anyone back, and this family may never recover from these tragedies.
All she ever did was open a door..!
So when you see #SAY HER NAME! say them all, and never allow them to be forgotten..!
Bettie Jones.
Bettie Jones:
She was 55 years old, and she died on the 26th of December, 2015.
She was shot and killed by the Chicago police.
Her neighbours son (Quintonio LeGrier) had become somewhat violent, due to his mental illness.
So the father decided to phone the police, hoping that they would take him back to the hospital for treatment.
Quintonio was only 19 years old, and unfortunately had some mental issues that blighted his life..
The father had requested his downstairs neighbour Bettie Jones, to kindly let the police in, whenever they arrived.
The police on arrival were met by Quintonio, and he was wielding a bat.
What really makes no sense at all, is as Bettie Jones opened the door for them, a police officer Robert Rialmo opened fire on Quintonio.
Quintonio was shot 6 times, and Bettie Jones, a mother of 5, was also hit, resulting in both victims dying.
The State's Attorney's Office ruled it self defence, and the officer was cleared of blame?
Latisha Jones, (daughter) said that, 'they will not stop fighting to hold Officer Rialmo,
and the City of Chicago accountable for their mother's tragic death'.
She added, 'I feel like they took a great woman from us'.
Again no use of Tasers, just deadly force, that took out innocent lives..!
Officer Robert Rialmo is a White Police officer.
Since shooting Quintonio LeGrier, and Bettie Jones, Officer Rialmo has filed a lawsuit..!
Rialmo is actually suing the LeGrier family for ten million dollars.
Because he claims that Quintonio swung a baseball bat at his head, and that's why he shot him dead.
This beggars belief, he allegedly slaughtered two innocent people, and now he wants someone else to pay?
Truly a travesty of justice?
Another innocent woman shot dead, for simply opening a door, (#SAY HER NAME)!
Breonna Taylor.
Breonna Taylor:
Breonna was 26 years old, and she died on the 13th of March 2020.
She was fatally shot by officers from the Louisville Metro Police Department.
Breonna was actually an emergency medical technician.
She was asleep with her boyfriend, when the three officers broke down her front door.
Her boyfriend Kenneth Walker, a licensed gun owner, fired a shot believing it was her ex-boyfriend breaking in.
Jamarcus Glover (Her ex), had been convicted as a drug dealer, and no longer lived or even visited that address.
It was him that the police had come to arrest, even though he didn't live there anymore.
The three officers all returned over twenty rounds, hitting Breonna five times, and subsequently killing her.
These officers were LMPD Jonathan Mattingly, Brett Hankison, and Myles Cosgrove.
They were the three plain clothes (LMPD) officers that had entered her apartment in Louisville, Kentucky, executing a no-knock search warrant.
Eventually the family were awarded twelve million dollars, for the police misconduct.
Officer Brett Hankinson of whom fired ten rounds, has since been dismissed from the force.
The other two officers were reassigned to administrative duties.
This misguided use of no-knock warrants has since been banned by Louisville's city council.
These warrants should never have been allowed anywhere, and should be permanently removed from any future use whatsoever in any country.
When you consider this young ladies incredible achievements, it reflects how precious life really is.
Because of the lack of caution shown in using these ridiculous no-knock tactics, an innocent life was lost.
(#SAY HER NAME)!
SAY HER NAME!
Charleena Lyles.
Charleena Lyles:
Charleena was 30 years old, and she died on the 18th of June, 2017.
She was at the time a pregnant mother, and shot to death by the Seattle police.
It was in her own apartment when she was shot in the abdomen and chest directly in front of her four children, one of which suffered Down syndrome.
Charleena had simply called the police due to her experiencing a break in.
There is an audio tape, of which interprets very differently to that of what the police stated had happened.
The gist of their explanation is that she had produced two knives, and then called them M-----F-----s.
This tape reflected more as if she was referring her remarks towards the thieves that had broken in, and not to the police?
In fact the main question would be, 'Why were these officers wearing tactical gear when seen heading towards the apartment building'?
According to them, they were on alert to Charleena, as she was moody?
The lady was physically tiny, (5'4" and 110 lbs.) and she could have easily been talked down, so why the use of deadly force?
It has been strongly suggested that racism was the true issue here.
And this incident is not alone in this thought..!
If someone has a mental illness, then its clearly a time for cautionary action, and possible use of careful diplomacy, but certainly not deadly weapons?
These officers were wearing riot gear, and would not have easily been accepted simply as police officers by one so frightened, and the knife or knives was possibly a nervous reaction?
She was possibly afraid for her children, and if these officers had announced who they were, and asked her to put down the knife, she would have probably been put at ease.
They previously knew that she had mental issues and had never really been treated for them properly, so diplomatic caution would have probably sufficed.
It was stated that as soon as the officers seen her with the knife, they both immediately opened fire in front of her children.
Seriously, a tiny woman defending her children with a kitchen knife, against two angry cops improperly dressed with guns?
Darnisha Harris.
Darnesha Harris:
Darnesha was 16 years old, and she died on the 2nd of December, 2012.
She died in Breaux Bridge, LA, after the Police had arrived at the scene of an alleged disturbance.
However, as the police arrived Darnisha in a terrified state was panicking and trying to get away from a fight that had broken out.
In her panic, she allegedly struck a police car, a parked car, and then a bystander.
The Police immediately opened fire and shot her dead, but it was never made clear by the police if she was shot whilst her car was still moving.
Several witnesses stated that she was actually shot whilst her hands were up in the air, surrendering, and also appearing to be extremely frightened.
This knee jerk reaction for cops to simply open fire at any and all situations, always seems to be based on a persons race?
Another precious young child taken away from her family forever, and for no good reason that any normal human being could ever explain..!
Deborah Danner.
Deborah Danner:
Deborah was 66 years old, and she died on the 18th of October, 2016.
She was shot by police Sergeant Hugh Barry, at her home in the Bronx, New York.
Deborah Danner suffered from schizophrenia, and her sister had called the police after an argument.
The sister was sent outside before the shooting, and knew nothing until later.
She was being cared for by her sister after her mother had passed away.
Unfortunately she had strongly objected to the sisters presence in her home.
According to an essay by Danner, she worked as an Information Technology professional.
Someone had suggested that this was perhaps the reason for her illness.
Couldn't possibly agree with that statement. IT is a relaxing and rewarding work.
It also keeps the mind alert, and that's important as you age.
So I'm really not seeing this death as anything other than over zealous policing, which could have possibly been based upon race!
There most definitely is a lack of situation training, and the correct use of deadly force weapons.
According to the police she had a pair of scissors in her hand, but then put them down.
Again she allegedly picked up a bat, this was not elaborated upon so is not known if a cricket bat, or a ping pong bat?
She had retreated to her bedroom, and six officers had followed her in there.
This was when the police stated that she raised the bat above her head to strike Sgt. Hugh Barry.
Barry stated that he decided to discharge his gun and fire two shots because he feared for his life?
Does any of this sound reasonable to you?
They actually carry a baton, a taser, and a gun. So against a 66 year old woman with an unknown bat, which would you choose?
Or would you just back away putting a hand forward, and state to her that you will give her some space and time to calm down, considering her mental issues?
Barry although charged with murder and manslaughter in May, 2017, was actually acquitted in February 2018.
The death of Deborah Danner clearly illustrates a much larger issue of how changes are required to be made in the way that we address people with mental health issues.
Very serious reforms are urgently required to improve both access and treatment, especially in the USA.
But even in the UK, people rarely see things the same way, and mental illness blurs that vision.
Dominique Clayton.
Dominique Clayton:
Dominique was 32 years of age, and she died on the 19th of May, 2019.
She was discovered in her bed by her 8 year old son.
On that fateful Sunday her children had returned home from a weekend at their uncles.
Her son had been sent into the house, to lure out his mum for a fun prank.
But instead he came back out alone, and delivered the tragic news, which was a massive shock for them all.
Dominique Clayton, the mother of the four children, had been shot in the back of the head.
No-one could believe that anyone could do such a thing to someone that was loved by so many.
Clayton had been dating Oxford Police Officer Matthew Kinne, but Kinne was married.
It's believed that he killed her to cover up his illicit relationship.
More shock was to come when a judge granted Kinne bail, which angered the family.
Judge Howorth had to recuse himself from the case, because of the family's criticism over his conduct in court.
Kinne was also terminated from his job by the City of Oxford after a council vote.
He is currently being held in jail in a neighboring county.
Clayton’s sister, Shyjuan Clayton, said Dominique was the life of the family, and she was always making people laugh.
She added that her sister was so funny and crazy, and that life would never be the same again, without her.
The number of people that die each year as a direct result of police interventions, are estimated between 400, to over 1000.
Given the data available, it is strongly suggested that African Americans are disproportionately affected.
It's very clear that the unfairness of both America, and the UK, in their treatment of other races is bordering on inhumanity.
This country boasts about its interracial harmony, but its far from it, when considering the treatment by police!
Something needs to change, and it needs to change NOW..!
